The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) is calling on all Guyanese, particularly the Muslim community, to be calm, pray and work towards peaceful elections.
“We must all pray and work for an election that is free and fair and more important, free from fear,” the group said in a press release. In this endeavour, the CIOG is calling all its imams, regional vice presidents and Islamic workers across the country to organise its community to pray for peace and to be calm, before, during and after the elections.
The CIOG also encourages all eligible voters to exercise their franchise and to respect the right of all Guyanese to vote for the party of their choice. “We must all work for a country that respects the rights of each citizen irrespective of race, religion, culture and colour; we are all Guyanese,” the release said.
In addition, the group has printed a “Duah that the Ulema of Islam have advised that we recite as much as possible during situation like we are facing…now.” All Muslims are encouraged to recite it as much as possible.
