Berbice B wrapped up the second of two Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) organized limited overs trial match after whipping Berbice A by 51 runs on Saturday, thanks to a century from batsman David Latchaya and some spin magic from Veeraammy Permaul and Arif Chan.
Batting first, the B team scored a decent 227 all out in their allotted 45 overs after Latchaya stroked 103 from 124 balls with 12 fours, finding support from national wicket-keeper/ batsman Anthony Bramble (32), Kevin Ramdeen (27) and Joemal LaFleur (26).
Bowling for Berbice A, Permaul, fresh off his return from the West Indies Test side, bagged 3-39 and smashed a brisk 27 with two fours and one six. Chan, the Port Mourant Cricket Club (PMCC) slow bowler snared 3-23 and seamer Niall Smith 2-52.
In reply, the A team were restricted to 177 in their 45 overs despite century maker of the first match Johnathan Foo scoring his second consecutive score of 50 or more when he hit six fours and one six in his 57, before retiring to allow other batsmen to have some time in the middle.
Skipper Assad Fudadin dug in for his 25, while Shimron Hetmyer set the tone with a hurried 25 from 13 balls with six fours but were halted by pacers Raun Johnson (2-18) and Keyron Fraser (2-17) while Blachand Baldeo and Latchaya took one each.
Stabroek Sports also caught up with BCB President Anil Beharry yesterday who said that he was impressed so far by the exhibition given by his players.
“We are pleased with the results so far, the batting looks strong as well as the bowling so we just hope they can continue and hope they continue those performances during the inter-county so we can win again”.
The BCB head also said that with the limited overs leg of trials finished, they will now hold a two-day trial match tomorrow and Wednesday as they seek to get the players further fine-tuned for the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) senior inter-county tournament which bowls off on May 16.
Meanwhile, the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) has rescheduled their trials for tomorrow and Wednesday at the Demerara Cricket Club
Ground (DCC), following last week’s poor turn out due to missing players and weather which did not allow play at the then designated Wales Community Ground.
