Tourney host Fruta Conquerors and Santos FC will faceoff in the inaugural I-Net Communications u-13 Football League following semi-final wins over Renaissance and Western Tigers respectively yesterday at the Tucville ground. Fruta Conquerors defeated Renaissance by a 1-0 score line while Santos downed Western Tigers 3-0 in a rematch of their earlier group fixture which was won by the latter. The finale and third placed playoff will be held at the same venue on Saturday.
In the opening semi-final, Jermaine Garrett settled the outcome in the seventh minute, placing his shot through the hands of the keeper and into the goal from the left side of the area, after pouncing on a ball that bounced over the head of his marker. Fruta Conquerors should have doubled their lead in the 21st minute after being awarded a penalty kick following a handball infringement within the area by Bevney Mark.
Tasked with taking the spot-kick, Garrett would thump his powerful right footed effort into the right post, much to the disappointment of the small gathering.
Meanwhile, in the second matchup, Rondell Jordan broke the early deadlock for Santos with a 14th strike into the back of the net from within the left side of the penalty box. Jermin Padmore would then make it 2-0 in the 22nd minute, rifling a left footed attempt into the top right hand corner following a one-on-one situation within the left side of the penalty area.
The result would then be sealed in the 31st minute as Darren Niles etched his name on the scorer’s sheet, blasting his effort into the lower left hand corner after collecting a right sided cross just within the top of the box.
The other teams that participated in the event were Sunburst Camptown, Order and Discipline, Fruta Conquerors-A, Black Pearl FC, Renaissance-B, Riddim Squad, Beacons and Pele FC.
