Coalition, APNU+AFC this afternoon met with officials of the Guyana Elections Commission and said that the elections body assured them that at 9pm today 94% of the votes will be shared with the public.
The APNU+AFC believes that this will, for the time being, ease growing tensions among the populace as the 94% will reflect that the alliance has won the general and regional elections.
“We expressed our concern about the delay in making a declaration… Gecom has promised 94 percent of the Statements of Poll by 9 PM this evening so the public can judge who will form the new government,” Presidential Candidate of the coalition David Granger told the press shortly after the meeting with Gecom.
He said that it was explained to Gecom, by his team, that the silence and “virtual halt” was dangerous for an already tension-filled nation who are eagerly anticipating an announcement.
Party executive Joseph Harmon urged the populace to remain calm declaring that his group has won. “Violence will do nothing for us. We are the next government and we are asking you to trust us,” he said.
APNU+AFC’s team stated also that Gecom has confirmed to them that the recount that the PPP/C had asked for has been halted for non-compliance with the law.
