RAIPUR, India, CMC – Dwayne Smith’s run of low scores continued and his West Indies counterpart Dwayne Bravo failed to have an impact, as their Chennai Super Kings crashed to a six-wicket defeat to Delhi Daredevils, in the Indian Premier League here yesterday.
In a match at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Chennai posted an inadequate 119 for six and 20-year-old opener Shreyas Iyer then spanked an unbeaten 70 as Delhi overhauled the target with 20 balls remaining in the contest.
Despite the loss, CSK remained on top of the standings on 16 points but just one clear of Kolkata Knight Riders in second.
Delhi, meanwhile, are one from bottom on ten points.
Opting to bat first, CSK struggled as both Smith and New Zealander Brendon McCullum failed to fire for any length of time.
McCullum fell in the sixth over for 11 with CSK crawling at 16 for one and Smith, who faced 24 balls and counted two fours and a six, followed in the ninth over for 18, lbw to seamer Albie Morkel.
Smith has made just 72 runs in his last six innings and has a highest score of only 40 in his last ten.
There was no magic from Bravo either, who was fifth out in the 18th over for just eight, skying a catch to JP Duminy at mid-off off right-arm seamer Gurinder Sandhu.
South African Faf du Plessis top scored with 29.
