Patanjalee Persaud is not only one of the top golfers in Guyana having won several tournaments previously. He is also the Managing Director of Crown Mining, the company which sponsored last week’s tournament at the Lusignan Golf Club.
He is also the brother of national rifle shooting captain Mahendra Persaud. With such a background it was not surprising that Patanjalee Persaud, despite his efforts not to, comfortably won Saturday’s Crown Mining tournament recording the best net score of 66 with a 23 handicap.
“By the 15th hole, I said to myself if I was going to place second, third or fourth, I would stand down and give my place to another golfer. But when I understood that I was first I decided to accept the prize, because there is that something so much more special about a first place,” he said after his victory.
“Today’s (Saturday’s) game was very challenging. I knew as I played my last hole that at least three other golfers could have turned in better scores.
This keen competition has made accepting the prize even more significant for me,” he added.
Of course handing over the trophy to the winner was none other than Mahendra Persaud, who is also a managing Director of the company.
Second position went to Kalyan Tiwari who recorded a net 68 off a 16 handicap while Mahendra Bhagwandin clinched the third position with a net 68 from a 24 handicap.
Claiming the fourth position with a net 69 from a 16 handicap was Bholawram Deo.
Avenash Persaud walked away with the Best Gross with a score of 71 from a two handicap.
The other winners were Shanella Webster, Longest Drive and Deo, Nearest to the Pin while Guy Griffith was adjudged the most honest golfer.
Club President David Mohamad expressed gratitude on behalf of the Lusignan Golf Club and also thanked the media who was present for the continued support coverage of the activities at the East Coast of Demerara facility.
