It seems the Guyana national U23 men’s squad could receive a timely boost as England-born and based Kadell Daniel of Charlton Athletic has allegedly expressed his willingness to don the colours of the Golden Jaguars.
According to a source within the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), the defender, who is currently on loan at Conference Premier (fifth tier) Club Torquay United, is eligible to represent Guyana through his family lineage. Currently the left-back has netted two goals while on loan.
Danile it was disclosed is also eligible to represent other countries. The usually reliable source declared that the management staff is currently in talks with the player and his representatives on the possibility of him coming to Guyana and trying out for the squad.
Daniel is one of several players currently being courted by the national programme in the bid to build a strong team to compete on the international circuit at the U23 and senior levels.
Daniel, 21, is a product of the Crystal Palace youth academy and will add quality to the team as they aim to qualify out of the initial group stage in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) leg of the 2018 Olympic Qualifiers.
Guyana is currently grouped with Aruba, Cuba and Antigua and Barbuda in the event. Initially set to host the leg, Aruba has opted out and the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) is yet to name its replacement. The Golden Jaguars opening encounter of the tourney in on June 24th against Antigua and Barbuda.
The Golden Jaguars will then faceoff with Aruba in their second fixture on June 26th and will end their tournament two days later against Cuba. The respective winners of the groups will advance to the final round where an elimination section will begin from August 14th-16th.
The resulting top two teams from that section will join the United States of America (USA), Canada and Mexico in the 2015 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship.
