Region Four was pivotal in ensuring an APNU+AFC victory at the 2015 General Elections as it gained just above 18, 000 voters in this Region.
Voter turnout for the 2015 General Elections was the highest since 1997 and for the first time since the PPP/C got into power in 1992, the opposition was able to capture more than 50% of the votes. The opposition coalition, APNU+AFC was able to capture 50.4 of the votes for the 2015 General Elections, narrowly beating the PPP which received 49.1 percent of the votes.

This year, the number of voters who voted for the PPP/C increased by 35, 117 from the last elections in 2011 when the party got 166 340 votes.
In 2011, the APNU and AFC contested the polls separately but their combined votes amounted to 175 011 votes and contesting together for the 2015 elections, the APNU+AFC alliance was able to increase this by 31, 808 votes.
The 68, 155 extra voters this election was testimony to the intense campaign run by both sides.
For this year, the PPP/C was able to increase its votes in all regions with the exception of Region 10 where it lost 75 votes. The greatest gains were in Regions Four and Six where the party gained
9063 and 7176 votes respectively.
Using combined figures for 2011, APNU+AFC increased votes in all regions for this year’s elections with the exception of Region Six where the alliance lost 320 votes. The greatest increase for the alliance came from Region Four where it gained 18 071 votes. The alliance also gained 4 109 votes in Region Ten. The increase in Region Four votes was pivotal for the alliance as preliminary results indicate that the APNU+AFC alliance only won the national polls by 5,360 votes.
With results from all polling stations in, the APNU+AFC alliance has received 206, 817 votes while the PPP/C received 201, 457 votes for the 2015 general elections.
