West Indies Test batsman Assad Fudadin was yesterday named Captain of a strong Berbice 13-man team ahead of Saturday’s start of the 2015 Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) senior 4-Day inter-county tournament.
Fudadin, the West Indies “A” and senior Test player will return to the local season following some time away after his hectic international and regional workload. National wicket-keeper/batsman Anthony Bramble was named vice-captain of the team, lending sufficient support to his fellow national comrade.
Berbice will enter this tournament as favourites, especially due to the calibre of players who are available for the rounds to come. This additional boost for Berbice is based on the availability of arguably the Caribbean’s best spin duo in West Indies Test players Davendra Bishoo and Veerasammy Permaul. National fast-bowlers Keon “Buffy” Joseph and the tall menacing Raun Johnson will serve as supplements to the wily spinners. In addition, the squad includes senior Berbice players: Jonathan Foo, Rajiv Ivan, David Latchaya, Gudakesh Motie, Anthony D’Andrade and Kandasammy Surujnarine.
Their stand-by pool of players consists of Sharaz Ramcharran, Kevin Ramdeen, Clinton Pestano, Seon Hetmyer and a few others who can be drafted into the side to make significant impacts.
Berbice’s first assignment will be against the youths of the National Under19 team when the two sides collide at the Enmore Ground tomorrow.
