Fryrish Black Sharks are the latest winners in the inaugural NPG Packaging First Division Basketball competition after dismantling hosts Ithaca Hardliners by a 78-43 score line recently 3 at the Ithaca Court.
Lindon Joseph led the assault for the winners with 24 points while Desi Douglas contributed 14. Chipping in with 12 and eighth points in the win were Rayel Franklin and Faydrian Fortune correspondingly.
On the losing side, Kester St. Claire netted 13 points while Kevin Parky and Phillip Edwards netted 10 and seven points respectively.
In other results, Canje Knights defeated Rose Hall Town Jammers by a 60-40 margin at the Fyrish Court. Steve Ramnarine was the top shot in the win with 28 points.
He was supported by Rayon Emmanuel and Cledwin Kurt who netted 14 and eighth points respectively. Top scoring in the loss was Kevon Wiggins with 14 points while Emon Wiggins and Michael King chipped in with eighth and six point correspondingly.
Action in the event is billed to continue today at the Fyrish Basketball Court with a solitary fixture.
Home side Fyrish Black Sharks will oppose Smithfield Rockers from 16:00hrs. The tourney will also continue next Sunday at the Ithaca Court.
New Amsterdam Warriors will faceoff with hosts Ithaca from 16:00hrs. The Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) sanctioned tournament features a total of seven teams from both the East and West Berbice area.
The other competing teams are divided into two groups. Group-A features Rose Hall Town Jammers, Hopetown Steelers and Canje Knights while group-B consists of New Amsterdam Warriors, Smithfield Rockers, Fyrish Black Sharks and Ithaca Hardliners. The other playing area is the Port Mourant Training School court.
The winning team will walk-away with the championship trophy and a financial incentive while the runner-up will pocket the respective accolade and a financial incentive. Similarly incentives will also be awarded to individual players.
