The coalition has its work cut out

Dear Editor,

Thank God the PPP/C lost the general election. It’s a pity it did not happen fourteen years ago; I would still have been living in Guyana.

Having said that, it is shocking that the margin of victory for the coalition was so minuscule. After twenty-two years of PPP corruption and misrule, Guyana is now one of the poorest countries in the Western hemisphere. Indeed with the exception of the UF-PNC coalition and the Hoyte presidency, Guyana has been so badly governed, that it is a miracle that there has not been more upheaval.

The coalition has its work cut out. In addition to good governance, it is imperative that anyone found guilty of theft of public funds be punished so that a clear lesson is learnt, pour encourager les autres.

Yours faithfully,
John Simon de Freitas
