Chairman of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Normalization Committee Clinton Urling said the entity envisions having discussion with the newly elected administration as they aim to foster a prosperous relationship between the two bodies.
The subsequent victory by the coalition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and Alliance for Change (AFC) during the 2015 General and Regional Elections, will witness changes at the helm of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the National Sports Commission (NSC).
Prior to the electoral process, Dr. Frank Anthony held the post of Minster of Culture, Youth and Sport while Neil Kumar served in the capacity of Director of Sport, a position he has held since 1992.
In an invited comment with Stabroek Sports, the FIFA appointed chairman said:“
The GFF expects to meet with the new administration to share our vision and plans for the sport and to identify areas of support and collaboration. We look forward to a fruitful and productive relationship.”
Asked about the areas that needs to be addressed within the discipline, he said:
“Government financial support is critical if the game is to succeed.
Other nations receive financial incentives from government in the areas of land acquisition, facilities development, youth and schools’ football, hosting foreign teams, and remuneration of technical staff such as Coaches and Instructors.
“Non-financial support will also be key. Support in this regard is needed in allowing the Federation free use of the National Stadium and theoretical training centres and other facilities for practice sessions, courses, and the hosting of international games and tournaments”.
