Twenty staff members of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) recently completed a two-day training programme on the requirements of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 9001 Quality Management Systems (QMS) and its implementation.
According to a press release from the GPHC, the training was conducted by the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) with the aim of “enhancing employee’s understanding of what is a QMS and how it can be used to improve the effectiveness and the efficiency of the organisation.”
Those who benefitted from the training included senior quality assurance personnel and managers. Rodly Semple and Charissa Wilson, GNBS Technical Officers, conducted the sessions.
The ISO is the largest developer of voluntary international standards and is an independent, non-governmental organisation which covers several industries inclusive of technology, food safety, agriculture and healthcare and as such has become instrumental in facilitating international trade.
ISO 9001 QMS “provides organisations with a comprehensive process-focused framework upon which it can build business processes that lead to the successful achievement of organisational objectives,” the release said.
