After seven years on the run, murder accused Kendell Skeete was held on Thursday by police.
Skeete, 34, was on the run since October 15th, 2008, when he fled after he allegedly murdered Kenneth Allen, 27, at Goed Fortuin Squatting Area, West Bank Demerara.
According to a police statement, Skeete was arrested in Georgetown on Thursday by police ranks, who were acting on information received from a member of the public.
He is due to appear at the Wales Magistrate Court on Monday, when he is expected to be formally read the murder charge.
An arrest warrant had been issued for Skeete in July, 2009 at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.
Allen was stabbed to death during an ill-fated rescue attempt at Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara, which was the community where both he and his alleged assailant were living at the time.
Allen, a carpenter, was stabbed several times about his body while attempting to stop a group of men from assaulting and robbing another man in the area.
He intervened in the dispute and the attacker, said to be Skeete, turned on him.
The two began fighting and Allen was stabbed several times. He collapsed and was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival while his assailant ran away.
A post-mortem examination later found that the father of two died from a stab wound that penetrated his lung and heart.
