The Guyana Lottery Company has agreed to offer part sponsorship to senior national female rugby player, Andrea Ashley ahead of the national team’s international engagement next month in Raleigh, N.C USA.
The sum of $100,000 was presented by Marketing Officer, Nkasi McKend to Ashley yesterday to offset
some of her expenses at the NACRA Rio 2016 Olympic Qualifier from June 13.
“I want to say thanks to the Lottery Company for sponsoring me in the upcoming tournament” said Ashley yesterday at the company’s Lamaha Street office. “We will do our best when we go out there to make Guyana proud,” she added.
Tracy Lewis, Managing Director of the Lotto Company stated that:” I see them training in the park really hard and the Guyana Lottery Company is really pleased to present this cheque today.”
In an invited comment, Manager of the team Colonel (retired) John Lewis reminded that the team has “been out of competitive rugby for a number of years” but from what he witnessed in Mexico last year at the NACRA 7s championships, he is optimistic of the team clinching an Olympic berth.
“They have been out of competitive rugby for a number of years but we are back with a team comprising very experience players and also a lot of new players.”
Lewis added “We have a very good chance and from what we saw in Mexico last December when our team was not there, they can get the job done with the right training and execution of the game plans.”
The team which trains in the National Park is scheduled to wing out on June 5.
