I got the chance to style Lisa Punch again last Saturday for the Swearing-In Ceremony for President David Granger. This week I decided to go really light and share with you some pictures of her ensemble. Dressing someone can be extremely pressuring and taxing even though it may look easy, fun and glamourous. We started at around 8.30 and finished at 12.30. They were the shortest hours of my life.
I was panicking because everything seemed to be moving too slow for the fast approaching deadline. Most of stress lies within
organizing all the components for the look and ensuring they are on par and timely. I think the pressure comes mentally because you become very dependent on others to add their bit
Hair, make-up and sewing are three areas that I outsourced to other professionals. So you can imagine how tense and nervous I was until each person came through. They are also not areas I can contribute to at all so I was extremely vulnerable.
For the Swearing-In Ceremony I chose to have Lisa in a locally sewn garment. I sourced the material from Sookraj & Sons Store on Regent Street. Having a garment sewn usually offers a more precise fit and it removes the chance of someone rocking the same look.
Lisa had to be special on this particular day. The event was a significant one and her look had to be a complete 360 from her campaign identity. Because of the nature of the event, I had to ensure Lisa’s look was appropriate.
I stayed away from party and national colours, because like I said Lisa is an artist not a mascot. She is independent. She wore a chic blushing pink business-like suit. I wanted her to come across as an artist but one with serious interest and respect for her country’s development. She wore a knee-length pencil dress in pink with a matching cropped jacket. The jacket had a neat bossy structural appeal to it.
As per normal, her hairstyle was an up-do by Samantha Gonsalves. The front was kept a bit straight whilst the back was curled. I think having the hair in total curls may have come off a slight party-girl look.
