A security guard who the police accused of stealing a radio from his employer was on Friday released on $30,000 bail after appearing at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he denied the allegation.
Gilbert Burns, 39, of 1109 ‘B’ Field, Sophia was charged with stealing the radio valued $120,000, the property of Professional Guard Service Limited (PGS) on May 8, at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In a bail application, Burns’ attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat said that his client is innocent. He said that Burns who was employed with PGS, took the radio and handed it over to four other security guards attached to PGS at Land of Canaan. The four guards eventually lost the radio and then laid the blame on the defendant, the attorney said. He added that the radio was found by a man who gave it to Burns who then returned it to PGS. He pleaded for bail to be granted in a reasonable sum.
Bail was set at $30,000 and Burns was ordered to return to court on June 3.
