A plumber was remanded to prison after denying that he shot at another man when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
It is alleged that on May 17, Tucville resident Peter McKenzie discharged a loaded firearm at Desmond McPherson with the intent to cause him actual bodily harm so as to maim or disfigure him. McKenzie pleaded not guilty to that charge when it was read by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
In a bail application, Mckenzie’s lawyer said that the police are basing their allegations solely on the several spent shells recovered from the area and they have not managed to recover a gun.
He further argued that it was McPherson who fired the gun at his client but the man told the police that McKenzie was the one who shot at him.
The police prosecutor confirmed that the gun was not recovered and objected to bail saying that McKenzie has an armed robbery charge pending in another court. The court was further told that McKenzie was positively identified by McPherson as the man who pulled a black handgun and shot at him.
After listening to both sides, Sewnarine- Beharry refused bail and ordered McPherson to return to court on June 22.
