Dyna’s Ravens continued their dominant showing in the Open Division of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) ‘King of the Hard Court’ Championship, crushing home side Plaisance Guardians by an 87-54 margin on Saturday.
At the East Coast of Demerara facility, veteran guard Ryan Stephney recorded a game high 19 points on a positive note while Jermaine Slater, Ryan Gullen and Marlon Rodrigues all netted double figures with 14, 14 and 12 points respectively.
Contributing to the win with nine, nine and eighth points were Winston Chapman, Dominic Vicente and Yannick Dundas. On the opposite end, Ron Campbell was the top shot with 14 points.
He was supported by Enoc Matthews, Mark Richards and Nikkoloi Smith who scored 11, 10 and 10 points correspondingly. The first period of the matchup was a closely fought affair as Ravens outscored the home side 17-14. While Raven’s had five different scorers in the period, Gullen was the main offensive threat as he netted eighth points compliments of two layups and as many jump shots. Rodrigues was the next best scorer with a three pointer in 8:09.
For the Guardians, Matthews and Mark Richards netted four points apiece. Matthews recorded his points via a three pointer in 6:42 and a free-throw attempt while Richards scored through two layups.
The Georgetown based unit would then increase their lead as they outscored Guardians 23-11 to take 40-25 advantage going into halftime. This time it was Stephney and Slater who led the assault.
Stephney netted nine points in the stanza through three layups and as many free throws while Slater attacked the rim for his aforementioned displays. Marlon Chesney was their top scorer in the period with four points.
The matchup would effectively be over during the third period as Ravens registered an outstanding 31 points while reducing Plaisance to 13 points to go into the final period ahead by a 71-38 score line.
Rodrigues led the assault with seven points inclusive of a three pointer in 4:50 and two layups. Dundas also got into the scoring act with five points highlighted by a three pointer from 3:03 while Chapman also netted five points led by a three point play and a jump shot.
Similarly Gullen, Slater and Vicente supported the offensive rush with four points each. Playing a lone hand in the period was Campbellville who netted nine points highlighted by three layups and as man free throws.
Opting to rest most of their senior players with the fixture already in the bag, Ravens would 16 points in the final stanza while restricting their opponents to an identical amount to seal the easy win. Stephney top scored in the period with six points from three layups.
The next best scorer for Ravens with four points was Chapman through a layup and a jump-shot while Dundas and Vicente nailed a three pointer each in 3:56 and 1:54 respectively. Top scoring for the hosts was Matthews who shot his way to five points inclusive of a three pointer at 6:40 while Richards and Smith netted two layups for their four points.
The second matchup of the section witnessed Trinity Grid Holdings (TGH) Pacesetters brushing aside Republic Bank Nets by a 67-50 margin. Stephon Gillis shot his way to 14 points while Randy Richardson, Joslyn Crawford and Ruel Ritch netted 11, 10 and eighth points respectively.
On the losing side, Fabian Johnson and Dorian Lewis were the chief scorers with 12 points each while Pelham Doris supported with seven points. In the opening match of the night, Colts edged Plaisance Guardians 53-48 in a u-23 fixture.
Kevin Dey and Amoniki John led the winners with 13 and 12 points correspondingly while Orin Thomas, Marlon Glenn and Jonathan Pooran chipped in with nine, eight and seven points respectively.
Top scoring with 21 points in the loss was Nduka Horatio while Kelvin Yorrick and Akeem Johnson were the next best scorers with 10 and eight points correspondingly.
