Dear Editor,
In May 1966 I was at the National Park (Q E Park in fact) when Lt Desmond Roberts raised the Golden Arrowhead for the first time in our independent nation. I saw then Prime Minister Burnham and Dr Cheddi Jagan hugging each other as the people around me cheered and heard some mention, “Things will get better as we chasing the white man out”.
Well 49 years later, that did not happen despite our rich natural resources. Because of a lack of a political solution we have remained a poor nation, but more troubling a deeply divided nation.
I am therefore so happy to witness in my lifetime the possibility of a united nation under our new president, Brig David Granger. He is a decent and honourable man and I have no doubt that he will live up to all his promises, and I forecast a minimum of 70% success at the next poll for the APNU+AFC.
Any country needs a vibrant opposition and so it is in the interest of the PPP rank and file members to kick out those who have brought the party into disrepute, and infuse it with young honest members in an effort to rebuild the party of Dr Jagan.
Yours faithfully,
Howard Bulkan
