The trial of Rayon Paddy and Orin Arthur, who were allegedly found with narcotics and arms and ammunition after a raid in Diamond, is set to begin next month.
Paddy and Arthur, who also face separate charges for allegedly impersonating policemen and robbing poultry farm workers of almost $1M in cash, appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Providence Magistrate’s Court yesterday, where the trial was supposed to start.
It is alleged that the men were found with eight grammes of cannabis, one gramme of cocaine, 17 .32 rounds of ammunition, 12 live rounds of .32 ammunition and an unlicensed .32 revolver in their possession on March 27th, 2015, at Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara. Arthur, standing in the prisoner’s dock, explained that his lawyer was not present and wouldn’t be able to make it. As a result, both men were given an adjournment until June 29th for the commencement of trial.
The men are already facing trial in the Mahaicony Magistrate’s Court for the other charges related to the alleged robbery of the poultry farm workers in March.
