GRA introduces online licences check

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has launched an online licence transaction checker that allows users an updated status of transactions done via various licences.

According to a GRA press release, the new service provides updated information every 15 minutes on its website (www.gra.gov.gy) on the licence transaction checker link to all taxpayers seeking information relating to transactions done using their licences. To access the required information, users have to “enter their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) and the last six digits of the transaction number found on the lodgement slips.”

In addition, an email notification of the transaction status is sent to customers for whom an active email address is received. The service covers transactions done using the following licences: trade and miscellaneous, motor vehicle, driver’s, hire car, conductor’s and provisional driver’s. Accordingly, the system also provides a custom declaration checker, “which allows customhouse brokers and importers to check the status of their custom declarations form C72.”

GRA Commissioner-General Khurshid Sattaur is quoted as saying, “the taxpayer can literally sit at home or at the office and go online and access these services; it makes life much simpler for our taxpayers.” Further, the release said the new system, which was developed by the agency’s technology division, “brings greater transparency to the process and removes the perception of preferential treatment being given to some individuals.”
