A land surveyor was yesterday remanded to prison for drug trafficking after police unearthed a quantity of cocaine and cannabis at his home.
Graham Telford, 51, of 65, Cross Street Werk-en-Rust, was accused of having 34 grammes of cocaine in his possession for trafficking on May 29th. He was also accused of having 840 grammes of cannabis in his possession for trafficking.
Telford denied both charges when they were read at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 1. Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.
Gonsalves informed the court that the police received information which led them to the home of Telford. He said a search uncovered a quantity of cocaine concealed in a padlocked room. Telford was in possession of the key for the padlock, the prosecutor noted, before adding that further checks on the premises revealed additional blocks of whitish substances, which were tested and confirmed to be the illegal drug.
Telford also claimed ownership of the illegal drugs to the police, saying that he sells it, Gonsalves added.
After hearing the prosecution’s submissions, Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded Telford to prison. He is to make his next court appearance on June 17th in Court 2.
