The manager of Muneshwer’s Limited has denied that the company blocked off the koker at its wharf at Water and Church streets, thereby hindering the city’s drainage.
Robin Muneshwer told Stabroek News that the story which is being peddled in the media is untrue and said it could not be further from the truth.
He said that several of the nearby manholes broke down because they were neglected by the city and Muneshwer’s had to build them back.
When Stabroek News visited the koker, excavators were in full operation trying to remove a buildup of plastic and silt.
Several heavy concrete structures which were used to cover the manholes were a few feet away.
Muneshwer said that the company will undertake cleaning the koker at its own expense.
When asked when the last time it was cleaned, Muneshwer said the company had cleaned a section last year. He said he could not recall the last time the city cleaned it.
