Writers whose work is self-published should not be recognised

Dear Editor,

I was mildly surprised when I saw a publication related to Guyanese writers with my name and self-published work listed.

Had I known this would have been done, I would have advised the writer to desist from doing so.

As it is, the publication stands. The question, however, still remains, can we classify a person as a writer on the basis of self-published works? If the answer is no, than I should not be considered a Guyanese writer. If the answer is yes, then every Tom, Dick and Harry is a writer. All you have to do is to publish on your own, even if the work is sub-standard.

I believe self-published work should not be recognized. In consequence of this belief, I have yet to consider myself a writer.

Yours faithfully,
Krishna Nand Prasad
