All-rounder Kellon Carmichael has commenced his second stint with English Club Hadleigh and Thundersley Cricket Club (HTCC) with some good performances and is hopeful that a good season can help improve his chances to play for Guyana.
The Malteenoes Club skipper, who winged out for England a few weeks back, has already began to churn out
good performances especially with the ball in the ongoing division one competition.
The right-arm seamer explained to this newspaper during a recent interview that he was happy to be back representing HTCC.
“The team is really happy that I’m back playing for them and I have a really good relationship with my teammates, they treat me as one of their own and not just an overseas player,” he said.
Carmichael, who was excellent last season scoring a few fifties and a century and bagging heaps of wickets, said that this season has not been such smooth sailing despite good cricket being played by himself and team.
“Second season hasn’t been smooth sailing since we lost two games but we got a convincing win on Saturday last and we have also qualified for the quarter-finals of the Dukes Cup 45 overs league,” he declared.
The former Guyana Under-19 player has so far recorded a highest score of 53 with the bat but has snatched up 25 wickets in eight matches with match-winning figures of 4-30, 4-19 and 5-30.
He pointed out that his aim was to help HTCC to dominant position in the league as well as to help further better his craft.
“My aim is to help my team here gain promotion to the Premier League of the Essex Shepherd and Neame League in which we are currently one in division. Also I aim to better my last season’s performance because when I get back home I intend to use my experience to help my club mates at Malteenoes and also to try and force myself into the national set up through performances in our local cricket.”
Speaking on how he plans to use his second stint and the English conditions to improve his all-round ability, Carmichael explained:“In terms of my bowling it’s really great at the moment not much I can improve on there but in terms of batting it’s a lot more difficult, conditions here are hard for batting especially for the first two months of the season but I just need to be patient because I think I’ve been in good touch with the bat so far, I just need to kick on and get big scores”.
