Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Friday remanded a mother of five charged with using personal violence on a man in an effort to rob him of $5,000 and a cellular phone.
Natasha Leacock of 116 Victory Valley, Wismar Linden, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1. The court heard that on January 20, at Linden, Leacock allegedly robbed Paul Croft of his phone and the said sum. The woman is also accused of using personal violence on Croft while she committed the offence.
In his bail application, Leacock’s attorney Patrice Henry told the court that the woman has no antecedents. However, the prosecutor objected to bail citing the seriousness and prevalence of the crime. The prosecutor also said the defendant might not return to court for trial.
The court heard that Leacock and another man who was previously charged with the offence, met the virtual complainant on the road in Linden and proceeded to punch and choke him before relieving him of the articles mentioned in the charge.
Leacock was remanded and ordered to appear in the Linden Magistrate’s Court on June 3.
