Marissa Charlie, 23, of Tabatinga, Lethem, was stabbed in her eye after she tried to end an argument between two of her friends at the end of a night of drinking.
Charlie told Stabroek News that she was drinking with her 16-year-old friend on Tuesday at her home, when another friend, Emily (only name given) joined them with a case of beer. The trio sat and drank until an argument ensued between Charlie’s two friends.
According to Charlie, she tried to make peace and part the two, after which she took the matter to her grandmother, who lectured them and settled the issue.
Afterward, Charlie returned outside and after a few minutes the 16-year-old returned and continued the argument. “I seh [name given] please move from me and she come and give me one push and I push she back.
She hold on and we start scuffling and she pull out a knife from she back pocket,” a weeping Charlie recounted.
She said her friend, whom she had known for a very long time, then stabbed her to her upper chest, after which she fell on the ground. Her friend then stabbed her in the right eye.
Charlie was subsequently air dashed to the city, where she underwent surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital. She is currently in stable condition.
Her assailant, meanwhile, is currently in police custody.
