Dear Editor,
Over the past two weeks, those of us on the Essequibo Coast, who are using the GT&T broadband and telephone service were seriously affected by sudden and long disruption.
It is 25 years since the divestment of the Guyana Telephone Corporation to GT&T and we are still struggling to get a reliable service in this age of technology. The frequent disruptions of our telephone and internet services means that we can no longer have a reliable means to communicate with our friends and family in the outside world.
You get the point. After two decades and a half the telecommunication industry in Guyana in general and Region Two in particular, is facing a full range of challenges to provide an efficient and reliable service to its customers. The time for relying on antiquated excuses has long passed. International communications networks believe in the importance of working cooperatively with government to provide a better service. GT&T will have to acquire, adapt and develop better technology in the communication sector if it wants to stay in the business.
It offers a crummy service for our hard earned money with a cheesy internet and telephone service.
Yours faithfully,
Mohamed Khan
