Two of the four local boxers sprang into action last night at the Pan Am Qualifiers with unfavourable results for one. According to reports out of Tijuana, Mexico where the qualifiers are being staged, Dellon Charles (bantamweight) lost via decision to Tafari Ebanks of the Cayman Islands.
Dawani Lampkin (lightweight) was the other pugilist who laced up the gloves for Guyana last night versus Kevin Luna of Guatemala. However, the result for that bout was still unknown up to press time.
Guyana’s Jason Phillips (Jr. welterweight) and Dennis Thomas (middleweight) will enter the ring today on a quest to clinch a berth at the Pan Am Games in Canada next month. Phillips will take on Anival Diaz of Nicaragua while Thomas is billed to match gloves with Trinidad and Tobago’s Aaron Prince.
Thirty-one countries are being represented by 177 fighters at the qualifiers.
There are 15 fighters competing in the bantamweight division, 16 in the lightweight category,15 in the Jr. welterweight and 17 fighters in the middleweight class.
