Victor Fausette, the Linden policeman who was shot in his head by the man he arrested on Sunday, underwent surgery to remove a lodged bullet and has since been removed from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Marcelle Bobb, mother of the injured policeman, said her son remains unconscious. She said the surgery to remove the lodged bullet as successful and he was transferred to the male surgical ward afterward.
Some other relatives who visited Fausette said that he opened his eyes and responded by moving his hand and legs at one point.
A source told Stabroek News that the shooting of Fausette was planned and other revelations are likely to unfold as the investigation continues. The police said that Fausette responded to a call by residents in Linden on Sunday about an armed man brandishing a cutlass and chasing residents.
Regan Richards, 18, who was said to be mentally unstable, was arrested by Fausette and taken to the Wisroc Police Outpost, where an altercation occurred. Fausette was reportedly overpowered by Richards, who disarmed him and shot him in the head before leaving with the officer’s weapon.
Richards was subsequently found at his home, where police said he opened fire on them. The police then shot the armed man, killing him.
