An Essequibo Coast businessman is now counting his losses after his stall at the Anna Regina Market was broken into in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Anil Singh, the owner Anil’s Wireless, an electronics and gadgets store said he received a call on Sunday at around 6.30 am informing him about the incident.
“I got a call saying that some wood were removed from the back of the stall and I immediately went to see if it was true. When I got there, I asked the security guard if he had seen anyone during the night but he said that he did not see nor hear anything because it had rained heavily,” Singh said.
He added that upon arrival at his stall, he noticed several boards missing which indicated that the robber gained entry from the back of the stall. “As soon as I got into the stall, I saw that several smart phones, laptops and tablets were missing. All the other phone accessories and watches that I sell were still there. I have a security camera at the stall and on the camera, the man who broke into the stall could be seen. He was wearing a cap and a cloth was tied over his face,” Singh said. “I lost an estimated $2 million in phones, tablets and laptops. This is the first time I have been robbed. I am hoping that a thorough investigation can be conducted into the robbery.”
The man related that he contacted the police at Anna Regina who dusted the stall for fingerprints but none were recovered.
Several persons were detained by the police to assist in investigations.
