Marian Academy and President’s College U19 teams both secured victories when the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) National School Basketball Festival Georgetown Division continued on Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Marian Academy defeated Georgetown Technical Institute (GTI) 32-23. Judah Stephney top scored with 11 points and grabbed five rebounds and four steals while Damani Thomas supported with four points and 11 rebounds.
Netting a game-high 12 points and grabbing five rebounds in the loss was Sebastian Luke.
Meanwhile, President’s College edged St. Roses 40-37. Jaleel Duke led the way with 16 points while Eli Innis supported with 12 points. He also pulled down seven rebounds.
Top scorer for the losers with 13 points was Anfernee Jervis who also grabbed six rebounds. In the U16 section, Plaisance Secondary crushed St. Rose’s 54-16.
Delroy Critchlow top scored with 14 points and had eight rebounds while Nigel Bowen contributed 12 points and nine rebounds.
Top scoring with four points and grabbing eight rebounds in the loss was Roger Victor. The final match of the section saw the Bishops’ High dismantling Tutorial High 52-18. Timothy Thompson registered a double-double of 28 points, 22 rebounds and seven steals in the win.
Contributing 14 points and six rebounds was Terrence Joe while scoring eight points and grabbing five rebounds in the loss was Zion Gray. In the earlier U14 competition, Marian Academy crushed New Campbellville 31-6.
Corey Graham netted eight points, and grabbed seven rebounds and four steals in the win while Josiah Daniels scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds. Jamal Corlette netted four points and grabbed three rebounds in the loss.
