Partner confessed to chopping Yarrowkabra woman to death over money – Crime Chief

The common-law husband of Carol Shako has admitted to chopping her to death with an axe at Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/ Linden Highway on Monday morning, according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum.

Blanhum told Stabroek News that the suspect confessed that he inflicted the fatal wounds after Shako, 42, could not account for an unknown sum of money.

The suspect is alleged to have taken a knife and slit her throat before chopping her in the head with the axe between 8AM and 9AM on Monday. It was not until later in the afternoon that neighbours discovered her bloodied body in the one-flat house, which is situated in a desolate area.

A neighbour said a man, who appeared to be drunk, went to her door and said, “Wallace killing the girl over there” but she did not listen to him because of his state. However, sometime later that day the suspect went to the home of another villager and told her that he had “just put her [Shako] to rest.”

The woman responded by instructing him to go home and wait on her to visit the home. At this time, the suspect’s jersey was soaked in blood. When the woman went to the house, she discovered Shako lying in a pool of blood. It was then the police were called to the scene.

A villager said it was a “normal thing” for the suspect to beat the woman so “no one does put in them mouth in their story.” She said she heard the man had accused the woman on Monday of having an affair with another man.

Blanhum stated that the police are seeking advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions and if they receive a timely response they will proceed with charging the suspect with murder.

Shako, who had moved to Yarrowkabra five years ago with the suspect, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
