Guyana’s men’s basketball team will be selected today for the 2015 Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships in the British Virgin Islands.
In an invited comment with Stabroek Sports, Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) President Nigel Hinds said that the team upon being chosen today, will depart for the championship on Saturday.
The national women’s team is currently competing in the female version of the event, with the male division to run from June 13th-22nd.
The current provisional squad which is under the watchful eyes of Darcel Harris, comprises local players Akeem Kanhai (captain), Dave Causeway, Travis Burnette, Shelroy Thomas, Nikkoloi Smith, Terron Welch, Jason Squires, Harold Adams, Ryan Gullen, Jermaine Slater, Chris Williams, Dominic Vincente, Rudy James, Royston Siland, Kurt Elias and Shane Webster.
The overseas-based players are Keron McKenzie, Ray Victor, Gordon Klaiber, Delroy James and John Ashley.
Completing the management staff is Marlon Rodrigues who will serve as Assistant Coach while Troy Greene will be the Team Manager and Junior Hercules will serve as his Assistant.
Guyana in their most recent international series, lost 2-1 to CBC rival Suriname in the Dutch nation. Prior to their Surinamese tour, Guyana swept another CBC rival in Bermuda 3-0 at home in the month of March.
Presently Guyana is positioned in group-A of the event alongside Suriname, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas and Bermuda. The two top teams in the group will qualify for the championship’s final four section.
Guyana finished fifth at the 2014 edition of the CBC Championships held in the same nation.
