A man was arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of taxi driver Dennis Narine who was shot twice in his chest during an attempted home invasion on May 31, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said.
According to reports, on the day in question, Narine, 26, of La Parfait Harmonie was awakened by noise at a window at his home. When he went to make checks, he was shot twice in the chest through the window. His wife and sons ran to the back room for safety. Narine reportedly died in his mother’s arms before he could be taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital for treatment.
His wife, Naomi Narine, was held after police started exploring another possible motive for his killing. However, she was later released on bail.
Blanhum stated that the suspect of Grove, East Bank Demerara was arrested yesterday after residents of La Grange informed the police of a car circling the area. Blanhum stated that the police responded quickly and he was apprehended. He was positively identified by an eyewitness and is expected to be charged with murder today at the Wales Magistrate’s Court.
When contacted yesterday, Narine’s mother said she was unaware of the arrest but happy to hear the news. She said she all she wants is justice for her son’s killing. Narine also leaves to mourn his three sons.
