Guyana Water Incorporated, GWI, wishes to advise the public that a chlorine gas leak occurred at GWI’s Water Treatment Facility at Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, today.
The leak occurred within the early morning hours, a statement from GWI said.
Employees have been evacuted and GWI teams with the assistance of the Guyana Fire Service are currently working to contain the leak.
Residents of Better Hope and neighbouring communities are advised that every possible action is being taken to contain the chlorine gas leak.
Guyana Water Inc. says it will provide further updates as the situation progresses.
