The Loyola Documentary Film Festival will host its second annual competition and interested filmmakers are urged to apply before the June 30th deadline.
Two categories are open to prospective applicants—amateur and professional.
The contents of the productions submitted should be focused on creating awareness amongst Guyanese on socio-economic, and cultural issues that affect the nation. Non-governmental organizations (NGO) are also being urged to make use of the opportunity.
Last year’s competition had six competitors, five in the amateur category and one professional, but the work submitted by the producers was superb, Samanthani Singh-McLean from Catholic Media told Stabroek News.
Advice and grooming will also be offered to the participants.
The first place winner will walk away with a monetary prize, along with a certificate and a trophy; the second place winner will secure a trophy and a certificate; and the third place winner will receive a certificate of participation.
Those persons who think they have the ability to create an excellent production but have never done so, although they would have completed studies and training in film production, will be categorised in the amateur category. The professionals are expected to have at least one year experience in television or film production. Entries may be submitted by individuals, independent groups or corporate groups.
The registration fee for an amateur producer is $5,000 while for the professional it is $7,000.
The festival was launched in 2013 by Catholic TV, Guyana, with an objective to engage skilled young people in the development of their talent and equip them with the tools needed to make valuable contributions to Guyana. The productions will be featured regionally and internationally via Catholic TV.
