Guyana ended their 2015 Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) women’s championships winless, losing to hosts the British Virgin Islands (BVI) 73-62 to finish in eighth position on Friday in the Classification Round Tourney.
Miriam McKenzie once again led the scoring for the Guyanese at the Multi Purpose Sports Complex in Tortola with a double-double of 22 points and 16 rebounds.
She was supported by Nichola Jacobs who netted 11 points and six rebounds, Merida Lewis who scored 10 points and four rebounds and Ginelle Ifill who recorded seven points and as many rebounds.
For the home side, Tamara Phillip recorded a double-double of 21 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists while Darier Malone, Shauliqua Fahie, Tyalia Nibbs and Tafara Phillips netted 16, nine, eighth and eighth points respectively.
A rematch of their earlier group fixture which the hosts prevailed 64-61, the opening period would be unable to separate the two sides as it finished 15-15. The second period witnessed the home side taking a marginal lead as they outscored Guyana 15-13 to go into half time 30-28.
BVI would extend their advantage by a significant margin in the pivotal third quarter, outscoring Guyana 24-10 to take a commanding 54-38 lead. With the fixture already decided, Guyana would outscore BVI in the final period 24-19.
