The national men’s Sevens rugby team won two matches and lost one as the 2015 NACRA Championships and Olympic Qualifiers got underway yesterday in Cary, North Carolina, United States of America.
Playing at the WakeMed Soccer Park, Main Stadium, the men’s team defeated The Bahamas 38-19 and The Cayman Islands 14-12 before losing 0-51 to the powerful Canada side.
The men’s team will clash with Trinidad and Tobago at around 9.30am today.
Canada, which played unbeaten, leads Group B with 9 points while The Cayman Islands and Guyana are each on six points.
The Cayman Islands however occupy the second spot with a plus 22 differential compared to Guyana’s minus 30.
The Bahamas with three points and Trinidad and Tobago who are yet to record a point are the other teams in Group B.
In the women’s competition Trinidad and Tobago defeated Guyana 34-12 and the Guyanese ladies also fell 7-27 to Mexico before rebounding to defeat The Bahamas’ 21-12.
Mexico leads Group B with nine points followed by Trinidad on six, Guyana on three and The Bahamas without a point.
The two-day tournament has 10 male teams (two groups of five) and eight female teams (two groups of four) competing for honors.
