A man who was allegedly shot by his stepson remains in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) and relatives are awaiting the return of the shooter who has since disappeared.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed that a report was received by the police and an investigation is ongoing, while noting that the victim remains in a stable condition in the hospital.
Samuel Wilson, 38, of Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke-Linden Highway was allegedly shot by his stepson on Wednesday and has since been an admitted patient in the hospital.
Dave Wilson, Samuel’s father said that his son is alert but he needs rest because of the injuries he sustained, so the doctors have been giving him medication to keep him asleep.
The senior Wilson said that he is not aware of what exactly transpired between his son and the youth that might have fuelled the incident.
Samuel, a former presidential guard was taking care of his family as he would have promised his wife to do and that is what he was doing, Dave Wilson said.
The injured man’s wife is making arrangements to return to Guyana from London, Wilson said.
The youth has not been seen since the incident and relatives are hoping for his safe return home.
Meanwhile, Wilson said that he was very disappointed with the poor ambulance service available at the Diamond Hospital Complex.
When his son was rushed to the medical institution, there were two ambulances but no driver was available.
The man said that he opted to volunteer to drive the ambulance since he is also a driver or even thought of transporting his son by a minibus to GPH but he was not allowed to do that.
Wilson had to use his car to go and look for the driver who lives at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, which he noted wasted a lot of time.
“There should be drivers for both night and day shifts,” Wilson contended.
