A teenager from Agricola was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit (A&EU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) late Sunday night after being hit down by a vehicle on Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown.
The accident occurred at around 8:00 PM Sunday and resulted in eighteen-year-old Jeffrey Jacobs sustaining multiple injuries. He is
now a patient at the Male Surgical Ward of the GPH trying to recover.
Speaking to Stabroek News from his hospital bed yesterday, where he was surrounded by a number of relatives and friends, Jacobs recalled riding his bicycle, returning from his regular afternoon outing when tragedy struck. According to the teenager, he was heading home when a vehicle hit him from the back causing him to pitch some distance away. After the incident, Jacobs said he was left lying on the road for some time since the driver failed to render any assistance though he came out of the vehicle to make sure he was alive. He drove off and never returned. Jacobs continued to yell for help and was picked up by passersby and rushed to the hospital where he remains a patient. He said that he was struck by a white Toyota Raum.
Jacobs underwent surgery to his knee hours after his admittance on Sunday night at the hospital since he had dislocated a bone. Both of his feet were injured and he sustained deep bruises about his body.
