KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC- Global viewing figures are expected to hit a new high for the third edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) which bowls off this weekend, organisers have indicated.
The tournament, which runs from June 20th to July 26th, will be beamed into over 200 million households across the world as global broadcasters sign deals for live coverage.
They include big-name broadcasters such as Sony Six, BT Sport, Guardian Group (Caribbean), ESPN (USA and Caribbean), Fox Sports, SuperSport and Sky New Zealand.
Broadcasters in Pakistan and Bangladesh are expected to be confirmed for live coverage deals before the tournament starts.
“Our global viewing figures almost doubled last year, from 35 million to 65 million, as word spread about the Biggest Party in Sport,” said Damien O’Donohoe, CEO, and Caribbean Premier League.
“This year’s competition promises to be bigger and better than ever before, and we’re confident that we will continue to increase our global reach in partnership with some of some of the world’s most prominent broadcasters.”
Global superstars including Kevin Pietersen, Jacques Kallis and Shahid Afridi will join the Caribbean’s finest cricketers, the likes of Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo, for the tournament.
The competition will feature 33 matches, and bowls off with a repeat of last year’s final, with defending champions, Barbados Tridents, hosting Guyana Amazon Warriors, at Kensington Oval, on Saturday.
The final, at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad, will take place on 26th July.
