I have been reading Peggy Chin’s interesting and valuable columns about trees in the city.
When I came to live in Guyana in 1955 I remember an astonishing and beautiful city. There must have been three times the number of trees growing in the city than there are now.
Could the organisers and participants in the current splendid clean-up exercise expand their vision and programme by aiming − perhaps with the guidance of the National Parks Commission − to plant thousands of new trees in Georgetown. Generations to come will bless such an initiative.
