Team Guyana suffered another defeat in the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Men’s championship, going down to Bermuda 74-65 in their third group fixture on Wednesday at the Multi Sports Complex in Tortola.
Once again Gordon James was the standout for the Guyanese as he netted notable figures of 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists. He was supported by Dave Causway who netted nine points and seven rebounds, Travis Burnett who recorded nine points, three rebounds and four assists and Jermaine Slater who registered seven points, four rebounds and one assist.
For the winners, Sullivan Phillips recorded an impressive double-double of 24 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists while Chris Crumpler supported with 16 points, four rebounds and one assist. Chipping in with 11 points, six rebounds and three assists was Yusef Riley while Jonathan Lowe netted eight points.
The first period saw Bermuda taking an early lead as they outshot Guyana by a 15-9 score line. They would then begin to seize control of the fixture, netting 17 points to Guyana’s 14 to take a 32-23 lead going into the halftime interval. Guyana would then cut the deficit to five in the third period as they outscored Bermuda 22-18 to head into the final stanza trailing 50-45. Nonetheless, Bermuda would seal the win in the final period as they outshot Guyana 24-20.
Guyana will continue to search for their first win when they face off with Suriname today.
