PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC- Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel captain Dwayne Bravo says he is happy with the decision by Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan to acquire the franchise ahead of the new Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season which starts this weekend.
Khan, the wealthy owners of Indian Premier League (IPL) side Kolkata Knight Riders, are set to become the new owners of Red Steel.
Red Steel will launch their campaign in the third edition of the CPL with a match against the St Lucia Zouks tomorrow afternoon.
“As part of Shah Rukh management in India, they already own an IPL team so the connection is already there, the friendship is already there,” said Bravo during a function to announce Carib Beer as Red Steel’s new sponsor.
“So I am very happy someone like Shah Rukh has actually chosen the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel team to be the owner of. They are great people, lovely people”.
Red Steel are one of six franchises competing in the CPL, the high profile Twenty20 tournament which started in 2013.
Defending champions Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Lucia Zouks, Jamaica Tallawahs and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots are the other teams competing in the tournament from June 20 to July 26.
“I have gotten the opportunity to liaise with them on different occasions in the IPL so I look forward to welcoming him to T&T and I know Shah Rukh himself is going to enjoy T&T,” said Bravo.
“So it’s good and exciting times for the tournament and for our team to have him as an owner. And to have Carib now come aboard as sponsors is the icing on the cake”.
