Kwakwani Secondary defeated Harmony Secondary 3-0 when the 5th edition of the Digicel Secondary Schools Championship continued yesterday at the Wisburg Secondary School ground.
Linden James, Kevin Carter and Cassius Campbell netted for the winners in the 70th, 75th and 80th minutes.
With the win, Kwakwani Secondary will now faceoff with Mackenzie High School in the next round.
The score line did not do justice to the evenly fought nature of the matchup as Harmony Secondary held off the advancement of Kwakwani until the dying minutes of the engagement through robust defending.
However, their compact rearguard would eventually be broken as James opened the scoring with only 20 minutes remaining on the clock, rising high above his marker within the centre of the box to direct a powerful header into the top left hand corner of the net, following a right sided cornerkick.
It would then become 2-0 five minutes onward as Carter etched his name on the scorer’s sheet with an audacious volley from the centre of the field. Racing onto a bouncing ball 28 yards from goal, the diminutive Carter unleashed a powerful effort that sailed over the head of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
The hard-fought contest would then sealed as Campbell found the back of the net compliments of flat 30 yard right footed effort, which sailed comically under the leg of the custodian and into the left hand corner. Action in the tourney will continue tomorrow with several matches at various venues.
