Travic Rudder, the 18-month-old baby who was shot several times at Nandy Park will soon be moved out of the Intensive Care Unit and into the Paediatric Ward.
Officials at the hospital are optimistic that the child will survive the shooting. The child was shot in his abdomen, right elbow, ankle, groin and foot.
When Stabroek News visited the child yesterday, his eyes were open and he was cooing.
He was injured when gunmen shot dead his father, Travis Rudder, 26, last Sunday. The baby’s mother Mawanza Gill was shot several times in the foot.
The police had said that shots were fired through the bedroom window of Rudder’s residence.
It was around 1.15 am that gunmen entered the man’s yard at Lindley Avenue, Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara and riddled him, his girlfriend and his son with bullets. Sources say the house was blasted with bullets for about 15 minutes
According to reports, Rudder, who died on the spot, was lying on top of his baby trying to shield him. Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said the police are yet to apprehend the persons who are suspects in the crime.
