Two men were sentenced yesterday to five years in prison, one of them in absentia, after they were found guilty of armed robbery.
Ade Doobay and Dominio Torrisir were jailed by Magistrate Leron Daly, presiding at the Providence Magistrate’s Court. Doobay was present in court, but Torrisir has been absent since being charged.
The charges stated that on July 16, 2010, at Willis Street, Republic Park, East Bank Demerara, while armed with a gun, the two men robbed Mohammed Azeem Khan of a .32 semi-automatic pistol valued $150,000; six diamonds worth $1.8 million; jewellery valued $500,000 and $200,000.
Additionally, they also robbed Mohammed Rafeek Khan of a cellular phone, valued at $20,000, and a gold chain and cash, amounting to $100,000.
