Nyron Joseph, Reagan Pollard and Larissa Wiltshire were amongst the winners when the Digicel/Guyana Squash Association Senior National Championships continued on Friday at the Georgetown Club Squash Facility.
Joseph in his matchup with Deje Dias, prevailed by a 3-2 score line. Surrendering the first set by an 8/11 margin,
Joseph would equalize the fixture in the second game as he won 11/3. He then took a 2-1 lead in the matchup, clinching the third set emphatically 11/1.
However, Dias would push the fixture into the final game, edging Joseph in the fourth set 13/11. Nonetheless, Joseph claimed the win in the hard-fought contest as he won the final set by an 11/4 margin.
Similarly, Pollard overcame Robert Fernandes by a 3-2 score line. Falling behind as he lost the first set 11/1, Pollard battled back to level the match as he won the second set 11/5. He would then take the lead for the first time, securing the third set by a 12/10 margin.
The fixture required a fifth set to determine the outcome as Fernandes claimed the fourth game 11/6. Nonetheless, Pollard sealed the matchup in the final set as he won 11/8.
On the other hand, Wiltshire dismissed Makeda Harding in straight sets 3-0. Securing the first set by an 11/4 score line, Wiltshire doubled her lead in the match as she won the second set 11/6. Wiltshire then completed the win in the third game as she won 11/7. In the other women’s divisional affair, Taylor Fernandes crushed Rebecca Low 11/5, 12/10, 11/9.
In the other results of the men’s division, Joshua Abdool edged Daniel Islam 17/15, 11/6, 8/11, 6/11, 11/7 while Jonathan Hohenkirk dismissed Hapoei Yang 11/9, 11/4, 11/9 and Adam Alves squeaked past Medhi Ramdhani 11/4, 11/13, 11/6, 11/5.
Continuing in the same section, Anthony Islam defeated Ingram Edwards 11/4, 4/11, 11/6, 11/5 while Alwyn Callender downed Joe Mekdeci 11/9, 11/8, 3/11, 11/9 and Joshua Abdool defeated Alex Cheeks 11/8, 9/11, 11/3, 11/8.
The final matches of the division saw Jonathan Hohenkirk defeating Jonathan Antczak 12/10, 11/8, 6/11, 11/9 and Jason-Ray Khalil crushing Alec Melville in straight sets 11/7, 11/5, 11/2. Action in the event is slated to continue today at the same venue with another round of matches.
